Nom Latin: Nepeta cataria

Origine: France

Its name evokes the Nepeta family, well known for attracting felines, but this variety is distinguished by its lemon aroma, adding a fresh, invigorating note. Like yarrow, lemon catnip is a perennial plant appreciated for its many properties. Its elongated, slightly toothed leaves release a characteristic fragrance when crumpled, reminiscent of lemongrass. Its flowers, often white or purplish, bloom throughout the summer.

Lemon catnip is traditionally used in herbal medicine for its soothing effects. When distilled, its leaves and flowering tops reveal a complex essential oil rich in citronellol and geraniol, components known for their calming and insect-repellent properties. Although its essential oil is not abundant, its hydrosol is particularly prized for its use in aromatherapy, promoting relaxation and well-being. Distillation, carried out in midsummer, is a delicate process, as each batch of lemon catnip is unique in quality and aroma.
