Matricaria Chamomile (Matricaria Recutita), often called German Chamomile, is a delicate plant with small white and yellow flowers, valued since antiquity for its qualities. Originating from Eastern Europe and the Middle East, it has spread throughout the world. At Essenciagua, we carefully distill the fresh flowering tops of this plant, certified organic and cultivated in France, to obtain this precious hydrosol. Its soft, honeyed, and slightly herbaceous fragrance offers an invitation to serenity. This hydrosol is particularly valued for the comfort of sensitive and delicate skin, which it helps to refresh and soften. It can also be used to add shine to hair or, as a drink, for a soothing break.

Native to Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Matricaria, also known as German Chamomile, is now widespread throughout most of Europe, colonizing neglected land and untreated fields. Whether wild or cultivated, Chamomile is harvested in summer, when it is in full bloom. Its name comes from the Greek chamos (because it grows close to the ground) and melos (because its flowers have an apple-like fragrance). The genus name Matricaria comes from the Latin matrix, -icis “1. reproductive, female, 2. matrix” and the suffix -arius, -aria, alluding to the plant’s virtues. Finally, it’s the plant of blond hair!
