Essenciagua Lovage Essential Oil (Root), certified organic, is a chemotyped and botanically defined product, recognized for its stimulating and beneficial properties against liver and biliary fatigue. Derived from Levisticum officinale, an aromatic plant native to the Pyrenees, lovage is a plant resembling a large wild celery, introduced to France by Benedictine monks.
This essential oil, distilled from the plant’s root, contains coumarin, starch, vitamin C and tannin. It is widely used for its diuretic and detoxifying properties, making it beneficial for detoxification programs and for stimulating digestion. It can also help relieve sleep disorders thanks to its relaxing properties, and is useful for reducing blood pressure when used in massage.
Lovage Essential Oil is effective in reducing bloating and gas thanks to its carminative and antispasmodic properties. It also supports the liver and kidneys in their detoxification functions, particularly after food poisoning or excessive alcohol consumption. A sort of large wild celery in scent, stature and foliage, Lovage is a perennial plant belonging to the Apiaceae family that grows spontaneously in the Pyrenees.
It is thought to have been introduced to France by Benedictine monks, who recognized its calming properties. In fact, its name, levisticum, derives from the Latin word for relief. In Switzerland, lovage is often referred to as “Maggi herb”, after the brand’s aromatized cubes sold in stores. The root, which is distilled to extract the essential oil and hyrdolat, contains coumarin, starch, vitamin C and tannin. It is also particularly appreciated in detox for its phthalide content. This chemical compound promotes drainage and detoxification, making Lovage root an interesting natural treatment option.
