The fig is a tree that sings of the South, a classic of Mediterranean landscapes.
A tree of water and sun, it loves light and warmth. Whether cultivated or spontaneous, it can be found in wastelands, ruins and hedges. It supports old walls that radiate warmth and protect it from the cold.
The fig tree is quite small, often twisted, and can reach up to eight meters in the right conditions. Its roots are long and seek underground water. It’s the rush of water that gives it its unmistakable shape, the suppleness and fluidity of its horizontally spreading branches and its large, undefined leaves. Often forgetting to make a trunk, its branches end up playing the role of one.
Its fruit, which is not a fruit in the botanical sense, is strangely not announced by a flower as we usually imagine it. There’s so much more to say!
