The Sitka Spruce is a conifer of the Pinaceae family that can reach 30 meters in height. Native to the American West Coast, Sitka Spruce, named after an island in the Alexander Archipelago in southeast Alaska, was introduced into parks in the 19th century, and used after the Second World War as a reforestation species, particularly in Finistère and Côtes d’Armor.
Sitka spruce wood is used for joinery and paper-making. Its twigs are also used to extract essential oil.
