Bourbon Geranium (Pelargonium Graveolens) is an iconic plant, whose origins lie in South Africa, and which is traditionally cultivated with care, particularly on Reunion Island. Its flowering tops have long been prized for their delicate and recognizable fragrance, evoking rose. This plant is valued for its distinctive aromatic character and its elegant presence.
Its essential oil reveals a complex and refined fragrance, a true olfactory signature. It offers deep floral notes of rose, subtly nuanced by green, spicy, and powdery touches, with a hint evoking the freshness of lemongrass and the sweetness of lychee. Origine: France
Native to South Africa, the Geranium was imported to Europe in the early 17th century, mainly for ornamental purposes. Geranium rosat is a cultivar that was first grown in the Grasse region of Provence to extract a rose-like essential oil for use in perfumery.
Fearing frost, crops had to be renewed every year. Growers soon sought out milder climates and planted them in warmer regions such as Reunion. Our rose geranium is a quality native to Reunion Island, “Bourbon” meaning “of the islands”. With its rose-like fragrance, it is an essential oil much appreciated in cosmetics, particularly for anti-aging treatments. Thanks to their citronellol and geraniol content, Geranium essential oil and hydrosol are also known to repel mosquitoes.
