Découvrez notre Lovage Essential Oil (Root) 100% Organic and Handcrafted

Lovage (Levisticum Officinale), sometimes called “Maggi herb” or “wild celery,” is a perennial aromatic plant whose history is linked to Benedictine monks who introduced it to France. Originating from the mountainous meadows of Europe, it is valued for its deep roots.

At Essenciagua, we carefully distill the fresh root of this plant to obtain a 100% organic essential oil of French origin.

Its unique aromatic profile makes it a choice ingredient for subtly flavoring your culinary preparations. Its fragrance, which evokes a closeness to celery, is characterized by spicy and earthy notes, sometimes compared to the aroma of Maggi herb. This singular essence offers a distinctive olfactory experience, inviting a deep sensory exploration.

Nom Latin: Levisticum Officinale

Partie de la plante: Root

Origine: France

A sort of large wild celery in scent, stature and foliage, Lovage is a perennial plant belonging to the Apiaceae family that grows spontaneously in the Pyrenees.
It is thought to have been introduced to France by Benedictine monks, who recognized its calming properties. In fact, its name, levisticum, derives from the Latin word for relief. In Switzerland, lovage is often referred to as “Maggi herb”, after the brand’s aromatized cubes sold in stores. The root, which is distilled to extract the essential oil and hyrdolat, contains coumarin, starch, vitamin C and tannin. It is also particularly appreciated in detox for its phthalide content. This chemical compound promotes drainage and detoxification, making Lovage root an interesting natural treatment option.
