The “Tea Tree”, unrelated to tea, is a thorny shrub with yellow, purple or white flowers in the Myrtaceae family. It grows wild in the marshy areas of Australia and New Zealand. It was an Englishman, James Cook, who named the plant “Tea Tree”, as he used it to replace his tea. Aborigines chewed the leaves and made herbal teas and poultices from them.
The antiseptic properties of Tea Tree Essential Oil have long been known. Relegated to the background by the massive use of synthetic antibiotics, it is now back in the limelight. Tea tree essential oil is highly versatile and has no contraindications.
