Cinnamon is a precious spice and a must-have in our kitchens. It’s also a powerful ally, rich in antioxidants that few microbes can resist.
This precious spice, known for over 3,000 years and used to embalm the dead in Egypt, was introduced to Europe by the Crusaders. Both a spice and a natural remedy, cinnamon is thought to be one of the oldest medicinal plants.
The precious spice is harvested from the cinnamon tree, 15-20 m tall, grown in Sri Lanka and northern India. It is harvested by removing the bark from the trunk. They are then dried and rolled to form the famous cinnamon stick.
