The Cypress is a conifer belonging to the Cupressaceae family, which can reach a height of 30 meters or more. Native to Cyprus and Crete, it is currently widespread throughout the Mediterranean basin. It is cultivated for ornamental purposes throughout Southern Europe and also thrives in our latitudes, including in the wild.
Historically, the Cypress was already mentioned in Assyrian writings and held an important place in the funeral rites of the ancients. In Ancient Greece, people with pulmonary diseases were sent to cypress forests.
Its wood, strongly fragrant, is rot-resistant. Its leafy branches and cones are rich in pinene. This terpene has antiseptic and antibacterial properties particularly interesting in aromatherapy.
