When my nieces have reflux

Decouvrez la distillation When my nieces have reflux Decouvrez la distillation When my nieces have reflux

My story

Feeding time is always a special moment for parents. I myself used to take great pleasure in bottle-feeding my nieces. On the other hand, I was a little distraught when they started crying when I put them back to bed, even though they had seemed quite peaceful just a few minutes before. My sisters reassured me that this happened to them all the time, it was just reflux. So I thought of lemon balm hydrosol, which they tried and adopted straight away!

My tip

For both reflux and colic, lemon balm hydrosol works wonders. It can be given to toddlers at a rate of one milliliter per dose (up to 3 ml, or the equivalent of half a teaspoon, for a one-year-old), ideally before feeding. The hydrosol is then diluted in a small amount of water or milk.
I also recommend using lemon balm hydrosol on baby’s tummy. Simply lay your baby on his or her back, pour the equivalent of a teaspoon of hydrosol into the palm of your hand and massage into the tummy. As hydrolat is watery and doesn’t really massage, it’s sometimes more pleasant to add a few drops of a vegetable oil (sweet almond, for example), which facilitates the massage.
Whether you’re on the move or at home, lemon balm hydrosol is also perfect on a washable cotton pad for cleansing your little one’s face and bottom.

What does phytotherapy say?

Lemon balm is traditionally indicated for digestive disorders, minor sleep disorders and nervousness in both children and adults. It acts on both the central nervous system and the digestive system. Its sedative, analgesic and antispasmodic effects have been demonstrated in animal studies.
Lemon balm hydrosol mainly contains antispasmodic, calming, sedative and anti-inflammatory molecules. It soothes stress, anxiety, nervous fatigue, insomnia, nervous hypertension and hyperactive children. It also calms digestive spasms in cases of reflux, colitis, stomach cramps and indigestion. This hydrosol is also perfectly suited to cosmetics, for oily and mature skin, as well as for skin irritations, itching, eczema and diaper rash in infants.

Did you know?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is the involuntary reflux of stomach contents into the esophagus
although not serious in itself, it is common in babies and can lead to regurgitation. To limit this, it’s best to take breaks during feeding or bottle-feeding to let the baby breathe, keep him in an upright position and not put him back down too quickly
put him back to bed too quickly

I use hydrosols SAFELY

There are no contraindications to using lemon balm hydrosol at the recommended doses, either externally or internally, even for newborn babies. For pregnant women prone to vomiting, 1 to 2 teaspoons in a glass of water before meals is recommended.

MELISSA OFFICINALIS Lemon balm

Lemon balm is a perennial, highly melliferous plant that can reach 60 to 80 cm in height, with oval, dark-green leaves that give off a strong lemony scent when crumpled. Cultivated as early as antiquity as a medicinal plant, its aerial parts were recommended for digestive disorders and melancholy. In 1661, the Carmelite monks produced “eau de mélisse”, reputed to be antispasmodic. Lemon balm essential oil is present in very small quantities in the plant, making it rare and precious. The hydrosol, with its versatility and interesting properties, is a perfect alternative, very pleasant to use both internally and externally.
