The plant

Thousandpertuis
Latin: Hypericum

Plant part: Flowery

Origin: France

Millepertuis (hypericum perforatum) is a perennial herbaceous plant of the family of clusiaceae or hypericaceous according to the classification. The transparent secretory pockets present on the limb of elongated leaves give the impression of multiple perforations, a particularity at the origin of the name of a thousandpertuis which means a thousand holes. Among all the species of St. John's Wort forming the hypericum genus, the name without epithet of a thousandpertuis generally designates the perforated St. John. Used in medicine and largely popularized for its antidepressant effects, the plant bears many nicknames, the most famous of which is that of Saint-Jean grass.
