Niaouli

The Plant

Latin Name: Melaleuca Quinquinervia

Plant part: Sheet

Origin: Madagascar

Niaouli is a small tree (10-15m tall) of the Myrtaceae family, with a tortuous silhouette and evergreen leaves, found mainly in New Caledonia, Madagascar and Australia. Its bark, made up of superimposed layers that crumble easily, is the source of its name “skin tree”. Traditionally, its essential oil is prized for its beneficial effects on respiratory and circulatory comfort. It is often used as an inhalant to clear congested airways.
Beyond its medicinal applications, Niaouli Essential Oil is also appreciated as a diffuser to purify ambient air. It is also used in the manufacture of body care products thanks to its decongestant and soothing properties.
