The cannelier is a tree 15 to 20 m high, cultivated in Sri Lanka and in northern India. The rods of the cannelier are cut, skipped, dried and then rolled to form the famous cinnamon stick. The precious spice, known for over 3000 years and used to embalm the deceased Egyptian, was introduced in Europe by the Crusaders. Both spice and natural remedy, cinnamon would be one of the oldest medicinal plants.
