When you want to clean your little ones' skin and bottoms

What a joy it is to pet and sniff a baby’s skin! We don’t always know how to refresh and clean such soft, delicate skin. We’re sometimes afraid of irritating it, with water that’s often too hard and drying or soaps that are rather useless. So, when my sisters each had their own baby, I was delighted to bring them a few bottles of hydrolat. They were won over and haven’t used anything else to refresh their little treasure’s face, bottom and hands since. In this case, hydrolats are a perfectly harmless solution for their delicate skin, and they provide a very pleasant scent which, to make matters worse, can be chosen according to the mood and olfactory desire of the parent!

My tip

Chamomile, orange blossom, rose, lemon balm, lavender and other hydrosols are ideal for cleansing little ones’ faces and bottoms. The advantage of Roman chamomile hydrosol is that it can be used for many other little baby problems.
I recommend using Roman chamomile hydrosol on washable wipes to cleanse the face, as well as to clean up after a pee. For bowel movements, it’s sometimes easier to clean first with water and a washcloth, then finish with the hydrosol. If the skin is a little dry, you can prepare a very simple mixture in a 60 ml spray bottle with 40 ml Roman chamomile hydrosol and 5 ml calendula oil. Shake well before spraying onto the wipe and applying to the skin.
Roman chamomile hydrosol can be applied to all skin irritations. For teething problems, I recommend spraying Roman chamomile hydrosol directly into the mouth (or massaging the gums), and adding 1 teaspoon to the baby’s bottle. This internal dosage is also recommended for sleep difficulties and colicky spasms.

With Roman chamomile, everything becomes calmer… For the nervous system, Roman chamomile is known to soothe, calm and sedate. On the skin, it is also soothing, regenerating and anti-inflammatory. For the digestive system, Roman chamomile stimulates digestion and is an antispasmodic. Its hydrosol is essential for combating all types of irritation (digestive, cutaneous, ocular). In pediatrics, it’s a universal hydrosol, used for diaper rash, teething pain, colic spasms, digestive pain, insomnia and dry, sensitive, inflamed skin. It’s an essential hydrosol for your bathroom and diaper bag!

CHAMAEMELUM NOBILE Roman chamomile

A perennial plant 10 to 30 cm high in the Asteraceae family, Roman chamomile is rare in France, but is mainly grown in the Anjou region in its double variety, which is the most interesting because it is rich in esters. It thrives in light, sandy soil.
Its name comes from the Greek and is explained by the fact that chamomile grows close to the ground (chamos) and the fragrance of its just-opened flowers is reminiscent of apple (melos). A bitter tonic, Roman chamomile is described in phytotherapy as a plant that aids digestion and calms intestinal spasms. It is also described as healing mucous membranes and skin, sedative and anti-inflammatory.
