The Plant
Plant part: Flowering Summit
Origin: France
Lavandin is a hybrid of Lavender, resulting from a cross between “fine” Lavender and Spike Lavender. Lavandin can be recognized by its spikes, which are fuller and more regular than those of Lavender, and by its longer stems.
Like Lavender, it has a rather violet, bright color and is a perfumer’s delight.
For the record, the word “lavandin” comes from the Latin “lavare”, meaning to wash. Lavandin is often associated with freshly washed linen.
Lavandin is used in phytotherapy and aromatherapy for its soothing properties against insect bites, and for its muscle-relaxing properties thanks to its linalyl acetate and linalool content.
Lavandin essential oil and Lavandin Hydrolat have very interesting properties in aromatherapy, particularly in cases of head lice infestation.
