The Plant
Plant part: Branch
Origin: France
The Pistachio Lentisque is a shrub 1 to 4 m tall, with lanceolate evergreen leaves. It is found in arid areas around the Mediterranean. Also known as the “mastic tree”, it takes its name from the highly fragrant gum extracted from its trunk.
This gum has been used since Antiquity. It is still used in confectionery and in the manufacture of liqueurs. Aromatic hydrosols and essential oils are extracted from the twigs.
Rich in pinene, the essential oil and hydrolat are recommended for relief of leg discomfort.
