When I have a canker sore

I think I brush my teeth with a brush with bristles that are a little too hard, which sometimes irritates my gums and the inside of my mouth. Normally this isn’t a problem, but during periods of stress or severe fatigue, when immunity drops a little, I get canker sores on these irritations on the inside of my cheeks or lips. When I was younger, I didn’t do anything, I just waited for them to go away, which usually took a good week (when I wasn’t “chewing” them too much). Since I’ve been using hydrolats and essential oils, I get relief much more quickly.

My tip

As soon as a canker sore appears, I rinse my mouth after each meal with 1 tablespoon of laurel hydrosol, which I swish around in my mouth for 1 to 2 minutes before spitting it out. If the mouth ulcer is caught in time, this tip makes it disappear in two or three days. If the canker sore is already quite ulcerated and painful, I top it off with a 30% aromatic oil: I pour at least 60 drops of St. John’s wort oil and 30 drops of laurel essential oil into a small 5-ml amber glass bottle (this mixture gives just under 5 ml). I apply this aromatic oil to the mouth ulcer with a cotton bud 4 or 5 times a day.
As a preventive measure, people prone to mouth ulcers can use laurel hydrosol as a daily mouthwash.

What does phytotherapy have to say?

Many essential oils are excellent local antiseptics, but bay laurel is THE plant for mouth and throat ailments. It is a powerful antibacterial and antiviral agent, as well as an excellent uco-dental antiseptic. Essential oils are delicate to use on mucous membranes. As a hydrolate, bay laurel has a rapid and spectacular effect on mouth ulcers. In phytotherapy, mouthwashes with hydrolats are recommended for mouth ulcers, as they are effective and non-irritating.

I use hydrosols SAFELY

The tip presented here has no contraindications, as hydrolats are perfectly suited for use on mucous membranes. This recipe has repeatedly proved to be a lifesaver for people suffering from very painful chemo-induced mouth ulcers. The aromatic mixture with laurel essential oil should not be used on children under 6 years of age, and should be discontinued on adults if they experience irritation. In this case, continue with hydrolats and St. John’s wort macerate alone.
