The Plant
Plant part: Needle Branch
Origin: France
Scots pine is a beautiful, rare tree in the Pinaceae family. Cultivated on the plains, it grows spontaneously in the mountains. It is resistant to heat, drought and cold, but not to light deprivation. It is considered the most valuable of all pines.
Scots pine is a versatile wood: we use the wood as well as the needles and buds. Its wood produces resin, from which turpentine is made, and its buds are rich in active ingredients.
Hippocrates cited pine extract as a remedy for diseases of the respiratory system. This recommendation is still valid today, since this is the main use of Scots Pine essential oil, hydrolat and other products derived from this tree in aromatherapy.
What are the benefits of the Scots Pine
The Scots pine is a plant with numerous health benefits. Thanks to its stimulating properties, it is very effective in combating physical and mental fatigue. Moreover, it is also recognized for relieving sinusitis by clearing the respiratory tract and promoting breathing. In case of a cough, the Scots pine is an ally of choice due to its expectorant properties which facilitate the expulsion of pulmonary secretions. This plant is therefore an essential natural remedy for relieving many everyday ailments.
