My testimony
I’m not comfortable speaking in public. I don’t do it in front of assemblies any more, but I still take part quite frequently in meetings where I’m likely to have to speak. There have been several occasions when I’ve felt so ill at ease in these rather innocuous situations. I’d start sweating, my hands would get clammy, I’d feel like my chest was going to explode because my heart was beating so fast, my throat would close up and my voice wouldn’t come out (it’s not strong enough under normal circumstances…). Now I know what I need to do before speaking or in situations that stress me out. Thanks to verbena hydrosol, I no longer have these excessive anxieties.
My tip
When I’m stressed or when I know I’m going to have to face a situation that’s making me anxious, I drink a teaspoonful of vervain hydrosol diluted in a little lukewarm water. It’s just as good in cold water, but I prefer the taste of vervain in lukewarm water. And I don’t dilute too much so that I don’t have to empty my bladder too quickly if I’m in a meeting… I also always carry an inhaler stick4 in my bag, the cotton wick of which I’ve soaked in vervain hydrosol. This allows me to breathe it in discreetly on a regular basis, whenever I feel the need. A few deep breaths make me feel more serene.
If I get the chance, when I’ve had a stressful day and find it hard to calm down in the evening, I take a bath in which I pour 50 to 100 ml of verbena hydrosol. For me, zenitude is guaranteed.
What does phytotherapy say?
Vervain was first used medicinally in Europe in the 19th century for digestive disorders (stomatal and antispasmodic), nervous conditions and mental fatigue. It is traditionally used for digestive disorders, nervousness and sleep disorders.
Verbena hydrosol acts as a nervous (tonic and calming), psychic and psycho-emotional rebalancer. It has a sedative and soothing effect on depressive states. It is indicated as a mental relaxant for stress management, anxiety, gloom and insomnia. It aids digestion in the event of stress-related problems, and is ideal in situations that create a knot in the stomach.

I use hydrosols SAFELY
There are no specific contraindications to using hydrosols in this way, whether they are inhaled or diluted in contact with the skin.
